What did 2017 teach you?

What did 2017 teach you?

As 2017 draws to a close you may already be thinking about 2018 and what you want the year to bring you.

Before you go charging ahead into January with all your good intentions and New Year resolutions, I invite you to pull out a note pad and reflect on this year.  Everything that you have experienced during the year has allowed you to grow in some way, so take the time to honour your growth and lessons learnt by asking yourself the following…

1. What life lessons did you learn in 2017?
I came up with a list of 30 life lessons for 2017 ranging from ‘it’s OK to say no and not feel guilty’ to ‘when a situation is a challenge, the more I see it through the eyes of compassion, the more I change my perspective of what is happening’.  See how many life lessons you learnt, no matter how big or small.

Butterfly2. I know myself better this year because…?
Quite often it’s the unexpected situations that provide the greatest opportunities for personal growth.  Times when you had to push yourself out of your comfort zone or deal with a change in job, relationship, or state of health for example.  Perhaps these situations taught you how strong you are? Or provided you with the insight that you need to be less judgemental and more forgiving towards yourself?

3.  What did the challenges you experienced in 2017 teach you?
Every set back; heartbreak; challenge and curve ball is an opportunity to grow.  I experienced several ‘set backs’ this year from corporate contracts to buying a house.  But now as I reflect, they happened for a reason and showed me that timing is everything.

4.  In 2017 I let go of…
I’m not referring to throwing away items from your wardrobe that you no longer wear here!  Personally, I let go of being so hard on myself by practicing greater self-forgiveness.

5.  I am proud of myself for…
Helping out a friend? Getting a new job or promotion? Showing kindness to a stranger? Being determined to achieve your goal? Coping well in difficult times? Continuing to learn by reading? Winning an award? It really doesn’t matter what’s on your list, what matters is that you give yourself the credit your deserve!

6.  I am grateful in my life from 2017 for…
In the best of times and the worst of times, there is always something to be grateful for.  Gratitude has no limits so let the pen flow and you may be surprised to discover how much you have to be grateful for in 2017.

And finally, feel free to capture, reflect or express anything else about 2017 that you need to in order to clear, celebrate and release 2017.

Now you are ready!
