Understanding Panic Disorder: How Hypnotherapy and EFT Tapping Offer Relief and Recovery

What is A Panic Disorder?

Living with a panic disorder can be incredibly challenging, affecting every aspect of your life. The sudden and intense surges of fear and anxiety can leave you feeling overwhelmed, trapped, and desperate for relief.

Panic disorder is a type of anxiety disorder characterised by recurring and unexpected panic attacks. These attacks are intense episodes of fear that can manifest both physically and emotionally. Common symptoms include a racing heartbeat, shortness of breath, chest pain, dizziness, trembling, sweating, and a sense of impending doom. Panic attacks can be triggered by specific situations such as public speaking or can occur unexpectedly, making it challenging to predict and manage them.

When working with clients to overcome a panic disorder, I use a blend of approaches which include hypnotherapy and EFT Tapping.

Hypnotherapy is a powerful therapeutic approach that utilises the state of hypnosis to access the subconscious mind and promote positive change. When it comes to panic disorder, hypnotherapy can help in several ways:

  1. Identifying and Addressing Underlying Causes: Working together, we will identify any past traumas, negative and limiting beliefs, and subconscious thought patterns which have created the panic disorder. Using hypnotherapy we will work to treat and neutralise these, forming new neural pathways in the brain.
  2. Relaxation and Stress Reduction: Hypnosis induces a deeply relaxed state, which can help reduce overall stress and anxiety levels. Through guided imagery, suggestion, and relaxation techniques, hypnotherapy enables you to access a calmer state of mind, providing relief from panic symptoms and promoting a sense of inner peace.
  3. Replacing Negative Thought Patterns: Panic disorder involves negative thought loops and catastrophic thinking. This thinking then becomes habitual and conditioned – like your brain is on automatic pilot. Hypnotherapy can help reprogram these patterns by introducing positive suggestions and empowering beliefs. This process supports the development of healthier thought patterns and new ways of responding to triggers and stressful situations.

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) Tapping is another effective approach that combines elements of cognitive therapy and acupressure. By tapping on specific meridian points on the body, EFT Tapping can help:

  1. Reduce Anxiety and Emotional Distress: EFT Tapping has been shown to lower anxiety levels by calming the body’s cortisol levels, and central nervous system. By tapping on meridian points, the technique helps release emotions from the body and restores balance to the body’s energy system, promoting a sense of calm and relaxation.
  2. Disrupt Negative Thought Patterns: Just like hypnotherapy, EFT Tapping works to reframe negative thought patterns and beliefs. Through a process known as “tapping out” negative emotions, EFT helps release and rewire unhelpful patterns, allowing for emotional healing and a shift in perception.
  3. Increase Self-Acceptance and Empowerment: EFT Tapping encourages self-acceptance and self-compassion, fostering a sense of empowerment and control over your emotions. By addressing and releasing emotional triggers, you can regain a sense of inner strength and resilience, enabling you to face challenging situations with greater ease.
