Does hypnosis work?

Does hypnosis work?

Does hypnosis work?  A question I am asked time and time again!. I’d hope so given the fact I am a hypnotherapist!

I do confess that despite having spent many years studying the power of the mind and how to use hypnosis to create change and transformation within a person, I am still amazed at the results my clients experience as a result of hypnosis.

How you can put someone into a lovely state of relaxation and make hypnotic suggestions to enable them to stop feeling fearful about anything from flying to public speaking is mind blowing – if you pardon the pun.

How does hypnosis work?

You are completely unique and therefore your personal experience of hypnosis may be a little different from the next person. Some people describe the experience as being in a dream, some people go so deep into trance that they don’t remember anything! However, one thing you can be sure of is that everyone , including you, can be hypnotised.

Hypnosis is simply the act of taking you into an altered state of consciousness, which it may surprise you to know, you do naturally several times a day.

Just before you fall asleep and prior to you becoming fully awake you are in the brain wave state called theta. The theta brain wave state is a very slow brain wave state, which is the brain wave state you enter when you are in a hypnotic trance.

The theta brain wave state is what you might call the doorway into the unconscious mind. During this altered state of consciousness, a hypnotherapist will use the power of suggestion, story, metaphor and hypnotic language to achieve your intention – what it is that you most want to experience for yourself.

As one client who cleared her panic attacks in one session said…

After one session with her, it felt like magic. The hypnotherapy lead me to barely remember the panic attacks that I have had and my anxiety seriously lifted. An amazing experience and a huge difference from a few days earlier when I didn’t know what to do or how I would ever stop them.

Are hypnosis and hypnotherapy the same?

Yes and no.

Hypnosis will hypnotise you, and when used in a therapy session will help you to overcome mental, emotional and physical problem. Hypnosis will also hypnotise you when you are on stage with a stage hypnotist!
The therapy part of hypnotherapy is the getting to the root of what’s causing the problem in the first place.

Hypnotherapy also works by:

    • Creating new patterns of thought in the mind
    • Processing traumatic memories
    • Empowering you to take control of your emotions
    • Helping you to discover your inner resources
    • Teaching you to relax and switch off
    • Helping you to create the life and future that you desire
    • So if you want to cluck like a chicken and strip naked in front of an audience, go to see a stage hypnotist. If you want to experience something which will have a lasting positive effect on yourself and your life, go see a hypnotherapist!
